Annemijn Boogaard and Febe van Zwambagt take profit in Subli Competition Boxtel

The fourth competition of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses took place Sunday, July 16 at riding club Klavertje Vier in Boxtel. The participating combinations scored high. In the four year olds the victory went to Annemijn Boogaard with her horse Oxxi Lena. The class for five-year-olds was won by Febe van Zwambagt and Newport.

Both classes were judged in Boxtel by judges Dirk de Haas and Cindy Heijligers who were able to give high points to the different combinations. Judge Dirk de Haas says, "We saw a good group of horses in both the four-year-olds and five-year-olds, with a clear leading group.

Minimal difference between number one and two in the four-year-olds

In the four-year-olds, Annemijn with Boogaard with Oxxi Lena was rightfully the winner. Her horse showed the complete picture and was very nicely balanced for a four year old. Oxxi Lena went through the test with a very nice touch and nicely on her own legs. It was made difficult for this combination by number two Femke de Laat with Oromance. The difference between the two was very small. Oromance had a very appealing trot, but was sometimes still searching for balance. That just made the difference for the result."

All of them quality horses

In the class for five-year-old dressage horses, there was only a small field of competitors with six combinations but the level of performance was very high. Febe van Zwambagt with her horse Newport set the highest score of the day with a total of 88.240. Femke de Laat also presented her horse Network nicely in the ring. Their test was rewarded with a score of 84,840. Judge Dirk de Haas: "The group of five-year-olds may have been a bit small, but they were all quality horses. As judges we really enjoyed this class. Newport of Febe van Zwambagt was the most complete horse and won very deservedly. This horse has three very good gaits and even received a nine for the trot. The stallion was presented in a fine manner, nicely off the hand and remained well balanced throughout the test. We were also very pleased with Femke de Laat's stallion Network, who finished second. Femke presented Network very nicely and professionally. He only missed some power in the counter canter, but that is only a matter of time," Dirk concluded.

Dinja van Liere and Judith Ribbels win Subli Competition in Wapenveld

On Saturday, July 8, the third competition of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses was held in Wapenveld. The participating combinations rode very well. In the four year olds Dinja van Liere with On Air was clearly the best and the class for five year olds was won by Judith Ribbels and her mare Nanny Mc Phee.

Judges Jacques van der Harst and Dirk de Haas were very pleased with the combinations that competed in Wapenveld. Mr. Van der Harst said afterwards, "The riders rode very professionally. We were very impressed with the level of the horses and the way they were presented. We saw many horses with good movements. You can also clearly notice that the riders pay a lot of attention to the bridle and dare to ride more and more on length. I think that is a very positive development, especially with young horses. However, there is always room for improvement. Riders can sometimes let their young horses walk more on their own legs, with the nose out.

High points for Dinja van Liere with four-year-old On Air

With the winner of the four-year-olds, Dinja van Liere with On Air, that was certainly fat. This combination really stuck out. That is also reflected in our high score of 83.00. The horse walked nicely uphill, with sufficient length and good on the hind leg. Dinja knew how to present On Air very correctly and professionally. With Leonie Bos and her horse Origi van de Nethe, we saw especially a good canter and fine stride. This combination came second with a point total of 79.00. One point of interest is that we would have liked this horse to be presented a little more in length for better balance. But Origi van de Nethe is definitely a very good horse with a lot of potential."

Judith Ribbels and Nanny Mc Phee also successful at five-year-olds this season

Five combinations competed in the class for five-year-old dressage horses in Wapenveld. The highest score and the victory was for Judith Ribbels with her horse Nanny Mc Phee. Last year the combination competed in the Subli Competition for four-year-olds and finished fourth in the finals in Amsterdam. This season they are also in the top of the ranking in the five-year-olds. Judge Jacques van der Harst: "Judith certainly showed a good test with her horse. Especially the bends were very neat. Yet we noticed that there were also some moments of tension during the test. It would be nice if she could let her horse walk a bit more on her own legs so that the mare would use her back just a bit better."

Wins for Bart Veeze and Aniek de Laat at Subli Competition Exloo

On Sunday, June 25, the second competition of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses was on the program at Equestrian Center Exloo. During this sun-drenched day the riders managed to keep their cool and put down neat performances. In the five-year-olds Bart Veeze with Nero clearly left his calling card by winning the class with a top score of 92.00. In the four-year-olds Aniek de Laat was the best with her horse Oostrade.

Winning combination Subli Competition 2022 successful again

In both the class for four-year-old and five-year-old dressage horses, the judges were able to give nice points to the participating combinations. However, there was one combination that stood out this Sunday afternoon. Earlier this year Bart Veeze and Nero won the Subli Competition in the four-year-olds during Jumping Amsterdam. This year the successful combination competes again in the Subli Competition and this time in the five-year-olds. During their first competition competition this season they immediately managed to achieve a top score.

Bart says: "I am very satisfied with the test we were able to show. With Nero I am also in the selection process for the World Championship for Young Dressage Horses and after the previous selection competition we got some extra tips during a short training session. This Subli Competition was a good opportunity to work with that. I could ride him a little looser now. Even with the warm weather he was still super fit. At the end of the test he still had enough energy left. I think I suffered more from the heat than he did," Bart says with a laugh.

He continued: "Nero always runs through the test very easily. He is incredibly 'steady' and got high points for his gaits again this competition. For the walk even a ten and nines for the trot and canter. My goal is definitely to qualify for the semifinals again for this season of the Subli Competition, but I don't know exactly what the schedule will look like yet. First let's see how the World Cup selection process goes."

Other podium finishes for Jill Borgers and Aniek de Laat

Behind Bart Veeze and Nero, Jill Bogers and the stallion Number Two finished in a nice second place. Their neat and solid test was rewarded with an overall score of 78.40. Right behind, Aniek de Laat finished in third place who saddled her five-year-old Newton M and received a score of 77.40 from the judges.

The highest score and the victory was for Aniek de Laat with her horse Oostrade with a total of 79.00. The four-year-old stallion Blue Horse Freelance was ridden by Jill Bogers and the combination received 76.00 for their neat test. Completing the podium was Leonie Bos and Origi Van De Nethe in third place.

Summer eczema in horses

Summer eczema, also called tail and mane eczema (SME), is a nasty condition that affects many horses during the warm months. It is caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the Culicoïdes Robertii mosquito, also known as the midge. These are small mosquitoes that are especially active at dusk. The horses get itchy and scrub, which can lead to bald patches, wounds and infections.

In this article, we share some practical tips and explain how you can support your horse's immune system with the right nutrition, making your horse or pony less susceptible to the midge bites.

Increasing your horse's resistance with the right nutrition

Omega 3 fatty acids, biotin and zinc are important substances that keep your horse's skin and coat healthy and strong. Thus, you can increase your horse's resistance to the midges and reduce the inflammatory reaction. In our assortment we have a number of suitable products that you can use for this purpose:

  • Subli Biotin Mix is a powdered dietary supplement to support hoof, coat and skin health.
  • Subli Omega 369 Mix is a flour-shaped energy supplement with a very high content of vegetable oils. It is high in omega 3 fatty acids, which can have an anti-inflammatory effect, reducing itching and allergy.
  • It is important not to overload your horse with too much concentrate feed, as the body is already stressed when an allergic reaction occurs. Choose a feed product that is low in sugar and starch. The Subli Diet Mix is a granola without grains, grain by-products and molasses. As a result, sugar and starch levels are extremely low.

Practical tips to reduce itching

In addition to scrutinizing your horse or pony's ration, there are several measures you can take to prevent itching as much as possible:

  • Protect your horse or pony from midges with an eczema blanket.
  • Coat your horse or pony with insect repellent. Be sure to repeat this regularly, as it can evaporate or wash off quickly.
  • Gnats are most active around dusk. So try to keep your horse or pony indoors around sunrise and sunset.
  • Put your horse or pony in a pasture where there is a lot of wind. In the wind, midges are less able to fly. It is also advisable to make sure there is no standing water nearby.

Femke de Laat and Renate van Uytert win Subli Competition Delft

The new season of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses began on May 30 at Equestrian Center The Prinsenstad in Delft got off to an energetic start. The competition for four- and five-year-old dressage horses had a nice field of competitors with some standouts at the top of the standings. Among the four-year-olds, Renate van Uytert-van Vliet was the best with O'Toto Van De Wimphof. The class for five-year-olds was won with great power by Femke de Laat and Nashville Sw.

The participants were judged in Delft in front of judges Patrick Berends and Bettine van Harselaar who were already able to give high points to the combinations this first competition. They were very impressed with the level of the participating combinations. Patrick says: "We have seen many fine horses that were certainly presented very friendly and harmoniously by the top of the ranking. Really a pleasure to watch as a judge."

23 combinations in the four-year-olds

No fewer than 23 combinations participated in the class for four-year-old dressage horses. The experienced rider Renate van Uytert-van Vliet had saddled this afternoon the four-year-old O'Toto Van De Wimphof, who was very much appreciated by the judges. O'Toto Van De Wimphof was presented very nicely by Renate which earned her a nice score of 84.80 and first place. "O'Toto Van De Wimphof is a great horse with absolutely amazing gaits. Especially on the trot he scored very high. So nice off the ground and so much connection for a four-year-old horse, fantastic. We also enjoyed watching Mara de Vries' Osibisa. This horse could only develop a little more power in canter, but we certainly see a lot of potential," said judge Patrick Berends.

Two podium finishes for Femke de Laat in the five-year-olds

The class for five-year-olds was led by a large margin by Femke de Laat with Nashville Sw. This combination has the necessary experience in the Subli Competition and shows to be in top form this season. Last year at Jumping Amsterdan Nashville Sw finished second in the final of the Subli Competition in the four-year-old division under Femke. This year they continued their strong performance in the five-year-olds. With a mega score of no less than 90.20 they immediately set the tone at the beginning of this competition. Besides Nashville Sw, Femke rode another horse in the class for five-year-olds. With Networks Ds she also showed a very solid test which was rewarded with a score of 80,80 and was good for third place. Femke looks back on the start of this competition with great satisfaction: "Both horses did really well. I noticed that Nashville has improved a lot the last few weeks. During the salute in the test I had the feeling that we could easily achieve a score of 90. The fact that we even beat that is fantastic. I am still amazed by his qualities and the feeling he gives me. He really is a complete horse with a great work ethic who will do anything for you. But Networks has also developed tremendously recently and I am very satisfied with it." Judge Patrick Berend also has nothing but praise for Nashville: "The qualities of this horse cannot really be described with words, you can only enjoy that. So much power and jump in the canter, really incredible. That promises something for the future." Completing the podium was Thalia Rockx who rode her horse Naomyi De La Fazenda to a nice score of 81.40, good for second place.

Jumping Amsterdam and Subli extend cooperation

Jumping Amsterdam and Subli have extended their cooperation until 2026. "The all-deciding final of the previous edition could fortunately take place again at Jumping Amsterdam and it was really fantastic to be back here. It is the dream of every rider to be able to ride there. With the Subli Competition we can offer this unique opportunity," said Remco Zuidam, product and sales manager of Subli.

The 2023 Subli Competition gets underway

The Subli Competition for four- and five-year-old dressage horses is about to start again. This year the competition consists of eight selection competitions (both indoor and outdoor), a semi-final and the final. The two best results from the selection competitions count for placement in the semi-finals, where the best fifteen horses per age group may participate. The best five horses per age group will be invited to the finals during Jumping Amsterdam. The first selection race of the new season will be held in Delft on Tuesday, May 30. You can register through the Equicompetition website.

Good exercise

"The Subli Competition is a beautiful competition, the selection competitions are held at beautiful accommodations. It is a good exercise for young horses and you can see how your horse is doing compared to his peers," says Renate van Uytert-van Vliet. Riders are allowed to put together their own tests, but a number of mandatory exercises must be shown. "It is one of the few competitions in which young stallions are also allowed to participate."

Education and training

Irene Verheul, general director of Jumping Amsterdam, added: "Education and training are very important to us, in the broadest sense of the word. That this coincides with training Holland's best young horses is completely in keeping with Jumping Amsterdam."

Bart Veeze and Beni Pachl excel during semifinal Subli Competition

Only the best competitors from the previous nine selection competitions of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses were allowed to participate in the semi-finals on Saturday, December 10 in Harmelen. This select group was well ridden with Bart Veeze and Nero coming out on top in the four-year-olds class. The class for five-year-olds was won by Beni Pachl with Hexagons Miamanda.

In the four-year-olds, 15 horses were selected for the semi-finals and in the five-year-olds, 11 combinations came to the start of the semi-finals of the Subli Competition 2022. At stake was a ticket to the coveted final on January 26, 2023 during Jumping Amsterdam. Only five combinations per age division may compete in the RAI Amsterdam for the title in the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses.

Four-year-olds

Bart Veeze entered the ring with Nero as second and immediately impressed the judges present Adriaan Hamoen and Floor Droge. Judge Adriaan Hamoen spoke full of praise for the winner: "The horse Nero possesses incredible quality. It all looks very natural and he goes through the arena with the greatest ease with his ears on. Nero is a horse with an awful lot of power. Especially his walk is a big plus and we rewarded it with a 9.5. He is also presented very professionally by Bart. This combination really makes us very happy."
Bart himself was also very happy with his performance. He says: "Nero gives me a very nice feeling. He runs the test very steady and nowhere does it get too difficult for him. That's really exceptional for a four-year-old. Our high score of 88 was a nice and nice confirmation of my good feeling about the test. I am very much looking forward to riding the final with him in Amsterdam. I very much hope that this edition may go ahead during Jumping Amsterdam. Because of all the coronagraphs it was always canceled at the last minute while I had good horses in previous editions. But I am confident that I can now ride Nero in the RAI. I'm sure it will be super fun!"
The judges were also very pleased with number 2 Femke de Laat with Nashville Sw. Adriaan: "The overall picture looked very good and the horse showed a lot of power in the trot. We would only have liked to see a little more activity in the walk."
Both Bart and Femke are their own reserve for the finals in Amsterdam. Femke finished fifth with her other horse Nox and Bart finished sixth with his second horse Nirvana (he also rode this horse during the award ceremony). Both are only allowed to start one horse in the final and have to choose who they will take to Amsterdam. That also means that number 7 Charissa Buurmeijer with No Limit will also be delegated to the final.

Five-year-olds

There were also neat scores in the class for five-year-old dressage horses. The results were certainly very close at the top of the standings, but it was Beni Pachl who made the difference with Hexagons Miamanda and finished on top. Judge Adriaan Hamoen was very satisfied with this combination: "Miamanda has three very correct gaits and was presented very correctly. The combination just missed a fraction of activity in the walk. The scores were very close because right behind, Renate van Uytert-van Vliet with My Blue Horse Santiano deservedly came second. That horse is really a powerhouse and can canter very well. There were just some small disturbances in the test and we would have liked a little more control in the test. But definitely a great horse with a lot of potential for the future."

Finalists Subli Competition Jan. 26, 2023

Only five combinations in each age division have a starting ticket up for the exciting final during Jumping Amsterdam. The following combinations will enter the dressage ring at the Amsterdam RAI on Jan. 26 for the title fight:

Horse too fat? Let it lose weight healthily with Subli Diet Mix

Horses and ponies easily accumulate more fat on the ribs than is good for them. Especially austere breeds such as Fjords, Haflingers, Tinkers, Friesians, Shetlanders and Icelanders can function just fine with fairly little feed. Traditionally, the metabolism of austere breeds works very efficiently and uses nutrients sparingly.

Obesity in horses and ponies: how does it happen and what do you do about it?

You may think that excess weight in horses occurs mostly in the summer months. But make no mistake. Many horses and ponies today also get or stay fat in the winter, and this is true of all breeds.

Do you sometimes give an extra scoop of concentrate as a reward after riding? Often it happens unconsciously, but some horses and ponies ingest much more concentrate than necessary. Add to that high-energy roughage and sometimes a little lack of exercise. Add in the morsels of stable litter and the result is clear: your horse is getting too fat.

Dangers of obesity and overweight

A "well-fed" horse looks strong and healthy in the eyes of many people. Yet there are far more health risks in being overweight than you might think. Overweight horses and ponies are significantly more likely to develop:

  1. Osteoarthritis: this is where a severe inflammatory reaction occurs in your horse's hooves. The inflammation leads to a lot of pain and, in severe cases, even a tilt of the hoof bone in the hoof. Chances are that your horse will never be able to stand or walk again without severe pain. Putting it to sleep is often the only way out.
  2. Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS): this is a disturbance of metabolism that you see reflected in a variety of symptoms such as energy loss, rapid overheating, reduced fertility, fatty tumors in the abdomen, colic, diabetes, hard fat deposits and laminitis.
  3. Insulin resistance: this is an incipient form of diabetes that severely affects your horse's metabolism. Your horse absorbs sugars from the blood with increasing difficulty, which in the short term means severe energy loss. But in the slightly longer term, as a result of insulin resistance in horses, laminitis often develops again.
  4. Joint problems: problems in the joints are caused by local overloading due to the many extra pounds of body weight. In many cases, you see the problems come back as the condition osteoarthritis. This is excessive wear and tear of the joint cartilage. Which can be associated with bone overgrowth, pain, stiffness and joint inflammation.

How do I make my horse lose weight?

Want to prevent the unpleasant consequences of obesity in your horse and pony? Then review your animal's situation together with your veterinarian or a specialized nutritionist. Together with them, draw up a treatment plan to help your horse or pony lose weight in a responsible manner. The basis of such a plan generally consists first of all of dietary adjustments. In addition, some changes in the overall management of your horses contribute to healthy horse weight loss.

1. Adjust nutrition

Healthy weight loss is slow in horses. Keep in mind that up to 1% weight loss per week of desired body weight is already an excellent result. And that a well-thought-out nutritional ration prevents deficiencies of essential nutrients during weight loss.

Always start by checking (or having checked) the energy value of your forage, the staple of any horse's menu. Rich hay contains a lot of energy and makes frugal breeds fat quickly. On the other hand, it is best for the well-being and health of all breeds of horses that they receive at least 3 to 4 servings of roughage per 24-hour period. For fat horses and austere breeds, choose a type of forage that has a relatively low nutritional value. Coarse-stemmed hay cut late in the year generally satisfies this best.

Grass in the pasture is also regularly too rich a source of energy, especially in the spring and early summer. Therefore, put fat horses and austere breeds preferably in an almost bare pasture. You can also choose to fence off pieces of pasture, adding a small piece of pasture to your animals every day. Another option is to omit grazing altogether. The energy intake must be limited, and since you cannot control how much the grass intake is, the energy intake must be limited.

2. Stable and pasture management under the microscope.

Changing your feed management is one thing, but getting a fat horse to lose weight in a truly healthy way requires more. Also consider things like:

  • Daily extra exercise: think about herding loose, riding, ground work, lunging, walking or jogging and some extra time in a horse walker. Or organize a long outside ride every week with a few stablemates. Always consider your horse's condition when doing so.
  • Appropriate bedding in the barn: Avoid straw as bedding. Straw gives your horse almost no extra energy. This can cause it to eat more straw and develop constipation colic. Therefore, use a different bedding such as sawdust or flax.
  • Prevent boredom: In nature, horses spend nearly three-quarters of their time grazing. A horse in a stable or bare pasture has fairly little to do by comparison, and boredom and the development of stable vices are lurking. Make sure your horse or pony has at least a few hours of something to do each day in the form of exercise, attention and being physically with peers.
  • In addition, the recommendation is to provide unlimited roughage. Is this not possible? Then make sure your horse or pony can take in roughage every 4 hours. Providing feed more often in smaller portions, feeding roughage in special slow feeders, fine mesh hay nets or in special feed toys will also keep your horse occupied longer.

Charissa Buurmeijer and Beni Pachl win final selection match Subli Competition

The countdown to the semi-finals of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses has begun. Last Saturday, November 12, the last selection competition for four- and five-year-old dressage horses was on the program and thus also the last opportunity to collect points for the next round on December 10 in Harmelen. Beni Pachl with Hexagons Miamanda convincingly won the class for five-year-olds and Charissa Buurmeijer with No Limit finished well above in the four-year-olds.

Both classes in Berkel-Enschot were judged by judges Mathie Boomaars and Karin Retera who were well aligned this competition. Judge Karin Retera looks back with satisfaction on the performances of the participants at the top of the standings, but also sees growth opportunities for many other combinations. Karin explains: "We have seen many beautiful and quality horses in both classes. Horses that - if trained the right way - have a lot of talent for the future. The Subli Competition is a talent test where we look at the qualities and talents of the young horse and that is only possible if the horse gets the opportunity to show those natural qualities. The way a horse is presented is therefore very important to us. The horse must be able to use its body in a natural way and be properly guided by the rider. Therefore, we do not like to see a horse being put in a certain position too much and being ridden uphill at a young age. It is our responsibility as judges to be honest about that and adjust the judging accordingly."

Looking at the moment

Judge Mathie Boomaars adds: "We really look at the class being ridden at that moment and only judge the performance of the combination we see in our ring. What a horse has done at other competitions or which rider is on the horse is not at all relevant to our assessment. A horse with a lot of natural ability and power presented on its own legs and free of the hand will always score high with us. And that's the way it should be."

Talent oozes from them

One combination that did that just fine and that the judges waxed lyrical about was the five-year-old Hexagons Miamanda who, under the saddle of Beni Pachl, earned a high score of 86.60. Karin says, "This horse is really a top talent which you rarely see. We saw a lot of his own suppleness and carrying capacity and ability to close. The talent is dripping off. In addition, Miamanda was presented nicely by Beni. If you continue to train this horse in a pleasant and nice way, you can grow towards the Grand Prix in a playful way."

Textbook

The four-year-old No Limit with Charissa Buurmeijer also scored high marks with the judges and won the class for four-year-olds with 85.00. Karin: "This horse may have looked like just an 'ordinary chestnut' but he has so much natural talent and ability to switch, we were very charmed by that. He walked nicely in balance and fine on his own legs. Really a textbook example of how we like to see it. But also number two Femke de Laat with Nashville Sw should definitely be mentioned. This horse has a lot of talent and was presented very professionally by Femke, appropriate to the level and age of the horse."

Nutrition tips for older horses

Feeding senior horses properly is quite a challenge. For example, you may give your senior too much feed, feed incorrectly or be too late to give extra feed. On top of that, older horses don't get nutrients from their feed as well. The specialists at Subli Horse Feeds have some tips.

1. Roughage is the basis of the ration also for your oldster

Chewing on roughage is a natural need of a horse. Make sure you make plenty of roughage available at all times. Even if your senior has fewer molars. This is because it ensures healthy intestinal function. Give soft and fine roughage, as this requires less chewing activity and will therefore be more digestible.

2. Extra need for vitamins and minerals

The need for vitamins and minerals is extra high in older horses because they can no longer make and absorb everything properly themselves. Therefore, it is good to provide these through the diet.

3. Pay attention to energy value and digestible protein

Older horses have a harder time keeping themselves warm, so supplementing energy is especially important in the winter. Moreover, for the maintenance of muscles and tissue, it is important that your senior gets proteins that are extra easily digestible. So keep this in mind when choosing your "oldie's" feed.

Senior feed for your old horse

Subli Seniores Priores is specially developed for horses and ponies that have problems with the feed intake of horse feeds such as hay, silage, chunks, grains and mueslis. These problems are often caused by dental problems.
- Forage and concentrate replacement
- For old horses with dental problems
- To be fed only soaked

Subli Omnia is a muesli packed with structure and fiber that can support the intestinal function of horses and ponies. Its unique composition with timothy, alfalfa, spelt flakes and chicory makes it extra high in structure and fiber.
- Additional prebiotic fiber from chicory
- Low sugar and starch content
- For extra chewing activity and longer eating time

Beni Pachl and Christel Heuseveldt score in Subli Competition Varsseveld

Friday, October 14, the second-to-last competition of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses was held in Varsseveld before the semi-finals in Harmelen. It was one of the last opportunities for the competitors to score points. In the class for five-year-olds the most points went to Beni Pachl with the black and brown mare Miamanda. In the four-year-olds, Christel Heuseveldt with her horse No Secret was clearly the best.

The competition in Varsseveld was judged by judges Kristel van Duren-Bodewes and Van den Berg who were both well on the same page. Judge Kristel says: "In the ring we saw beautiful combinations and very quality horses with a lot of potential for the future. However, we did see some tension in several horses and some riders could let the horses walk a little more on their own legs. Which is very important with young horses."

Five-year-olds

Kristel continued: "In the five-year-olds, Beni Pachl with his mare Miamande was definitely the outlier with a total of 83.400. Bennie rode a super neat and good test. Miamanda is a fine dressage horse and walks nicely uphill. In the walk we would like to see a little more body use and a little more jump in the canter. But otherwise technically a very strong test. Behind Beni, Kim Alting finished second with Madison Ave with a score of 78.600. Her horse went through the track with a lot of release and power, only the finishing of the test could be improved a bit. Also, we would like to see a more active stride."

Four-year-olds

"In the four-year-olds, the horse No Secret under the saddle of Christel Heuseveldt really stood out. No Secret has a very nice stride and was nicely presented and nicely ridden, nice to the hand. The combination also showed a lot of rhythm. Actually everything was just right. In the number two Cynthia Eggenkamp with Noble Romance we saw some moments of tension, but because she solved them so neatly and sympathetically, she still finished high in the standings. Especially in the walk this horse was very strong and we rewarded that with a nine. But also in the trot Noble Romance went through the track very light-footed. We were very pleased with this combination. Kim Koolen finished third with Night Shadow. This horse showed a lot of rhythm and a great canter. Trial technique can still be improved and we would also like to see a bit more towards the hand. But definitely a horse with a lot of qualities."
