Anke van Moer and Charlotte Fry win Subli Competition Berkel Enschot
November 11, 2024
On Saturday, November 9, the last selection competition of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses was held in Berkel Enschot. It was the last chance for the participants to score points towards the semi-finals. In the class for four-year-olds, Anke van Moer with Hexagons Power Dutch was supreme with a top score of over 91%. In the five-year-olds, the win was for Charlotte Fry with Secret Lover.
Stunning performances at the top of the leaderboard in the four-year-olds
Both classes were judged in Berkel Enschot by judges Karin Retera and Mathie Boomaars. In the results high points can be found with all podium winners. In the class for four-year-old dressage horses there was one combination that stood out head and shoulders above the rest: Anke van Moer with the grey stallion Hexagons Power Dutch. This combination even received a ten for the walk and a total score of 91.4. Judge Karin Retera says: "Yes, Hexagons Power Dutch was just superlative. This horse has an awful lot of quality and was presented wonderfully. We also gave Anke a 9 for riding. She rode her horse nicely on length and was fine with the movements. Exactly how we want to see it and really an example for others."
Practical tips from the judges
Although the judges had many words of praise for the combinations at the top of the standings, Karin says a critical note is also in order. She explains: "In the class for four-year-olds, we saw several combinations where the way of presenting still needs improvement. In the four-year-olds we want to see horses that are presented nicely on length and get the chance to walk nicely on their own legs. That image was not present with everyone. Also, some riders make the test unnecessarily difficult, making the combination of exercises too difficult for their young horse and not allowing them to relax. It is good to take that into account as a rider."
Quality horses in the five-year-olds
Nine combinations competed in the class for five-year-old dressage horses. The judges were particularly pleased with rider Charlotte Fry, who entered the class with two horses. Judge Karin Retera says: "We saw a small group in the five-year-olds, but one with many quality horses. Secret Lover was presented very nicely by Charlotte Fry and was the clear winner for us. She received a score of 87.6 from us. This stallion naturally shows a lot of ability to collect. His ability to extend and shorten is outstanding. Charlotte's second horse O'Frederic is also a very strong horse with a lot of self-carriage. Yet Secret Lover stood out a little more for us because of his natural ability."
