Removing the hull/peel from an oat kernel creates clipped oats. This makes it the ideal solution for horses that do not digest oats well. Clipped oats are great for horses that need extra energy quickly because they have to make a big effort.
Compared to other grains, oats have the lowest starch content AND starch from oats is the most digestible for horses. It can be digested almost completely in the stomach. Oats also have a high fat content, are high in protein and contain a lot of crude fiber. Like other grains, oats have a skewed calcium-to-phosphorus ratio: oats contain more phosphorus than calcium. When feeding large quantities of oats, this ratio must be corrected.
In addition to spiked oats, we also have crushed oats in our assortment. Flattened oats contain much more crude cell matter compared to punted oats, due to the husk present.
