Dante's Empire and Pharrell win Subli Competition Schijndel

On Friday, May 30, the first qualifier of the new season of the Subli Competition for Young Dressage Horses was held in Schijndel. In the strong leading group of four-year-olds, Dante's Empire (by Dante Weltino), ridden by Bart Veeze, ran to the highest score. In the five-year-olds the victory went to Pharrell (by Kyton) with Femke de Laat.

In the four-year-olds, three combinations scored above 80%. Bart Veeze and Dante's Empire were awarded 84.84, Lotje Schoots and Rufus van 't Houtsche were second with 82.32 and Robert-Jan de Visser's test with Vin Diesel was good for 80.68. Both classes were judged by Cindy Heijligers and Piet Groen. "We saw really good horses with a lot of quality. Some had some tension which made them too short in the neck, which was unfortunate for the overall picture. We also noticed that several times the riding was messy and thoughtless and that more attention could be paid to the friendly presentation," said judge Piet Groen.

Happy athletes

"Bart, Lotje and Robert-Jan were riding very friendly. Here you really saw 'happy athletes' coming up," Groen lauded the numbers one, two and three in the four-year-olds. "In terms of balance, friendly riding and correct completion of the parts, Bart stood out. Lotje rode very neatly and thoughtfully, she had her horse nicely in length and presented him very kindly. Robert-Jan's horse has a very appealing trot, we could give fine points to that and the horse has naturally a lot of balance and power. A few four-year-olds were very big, definitely horses with potential but they don't have the power yet because of their size."

Five-year-olds

In the five-year-olds there was one score above 80%: Femke de Laat and Pharrell were rewarded with 81,08. For the test of Mascha van Es with Pino, the jury duo gave 76.64 and thus second place, followed by Marieke Cobben and Paulo with 76.16. "Femke's Pharrell is a very workable horse with a nice quiet touch and a nice silhouette. He has three good basic gaits with print and balance," Groen said of Kyton son Pharell. "Some of the five-year-olds were less confirmed than the four-year-olds and there needs to be a neater ride, which is something we would like to give the riders."
